PhD NICU GAVRILUŢĂ (b. 1963) is the dean and conferential doctor at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work Department from Iassy, Romania. Teaches courses of history and sociology of religions, social and cultural anthropology, and sociology of the symbolic forms.

 Member of the Romanian National Association of Sociology, program director of the Interdisciplinary Research of Religions and Ideologies (SACR,I) and of the AXIS Academic Foundation from Iassy, Romania. He is the president of the Antropos Association, and coordinates the Interdisciplinary Research Seminar of Religions and Ideologies (SCIRI) Iassy, Romania and is a member of the publishing committee of the Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies.

Publishes numerous studies and articles in Romania and abroad as well as the books : Mentalities and magical-religious rituals (Polirom, Iassy, 1998), Culianu, mind games and the multidimensional worlds (Polirom, Iassy, 2000), The social imaginary of the Romanian transition (Dacia, Cluj-Napoca, 2001), Fractals and the social time (Dacia, Cluj-Napoca 2003), The hermeneutics of the religious symbolism (Axis, Iaşi, 2003), Oriental Religious Movements (Provopress, Cluj-Napoca, 2006), Romania in bardo state . Publicistica and cultural dialogues (Provopress, Cluj-Napoca, 2006).

Participates in and organizes sociological research within projects that were coordinated by the. N.G.O Social Alternatives, Iassy or took place within the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University. These projects were related to Iassy’s political life, sexual and work exploitation of children and teenagers, to the socio-professional reinsertion of ex-convicts, and to the analysis of the current religious phenomena in Romania.
